Coaching Staff
Taro Fujimoto (Coach T) is entering his fifth season as an assistant coach for the University of Sioux Falls. Over the past four seasons Fujimoto assisted the Cougars to an overall record of 82-49. During this time USF has claimed two GPAC Championships (2006, 2007), two GPAC Tournament Championship (2007, 2008), three trips to the NAIA Division II National Tournament (2006, 2007, 2008), as well as being the #1 ranked team in the nation during the 2007 season.
Prior to Sioux Falls, Coach Fujimoto was an assistant and recruiting coordinator at Minot State University in North Dakota.
While at Minot he helped guide the Beavers to an overall record of 23-9 which earned them the DAC-10 Championship as well as the conference tournament championship. The Beavers qualified for the NAIA Division II National Tournament for the first time since the 1995 season and set a new school record for wins (23) in a season.
Before Minot State, Fujimoto served as an assistant coach at Briar Cliff University (2002-2004), Grayson County College in Texas (2000-2002), and the University of Saint Mary (1999-2000).
Coach T began his playing career at Treasure Valley C.C. in Ontario, Oregon. After red-shirting his first year, Fujimoto was named a starter and was amongst the Scenic West Athletic Conferences top 10 in assists (6.2) and steals (1.8). He was voted co-captain his sophomore season and received TVCC’s “Coaches Award”.
Fujimoto continued his career at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas. During his final two seasons, he was voted team captain and led the Spires in assists and steals. He earned his Bachelors Degree in History (2000) from University of Saint Mary and just recently completed his Masters Degree in Education (2007) from the University of Sioux Falls.
Jack Nelson enters his second season as an assistant basketball coach for the University of Sioux Falls men’s program. Nelson was on staff last season when the Cougars made their run to a tournament GPAC title.
Nelson came to USF after serving as a men’s assistant coach for Saint Mary's University of Minnesota in Winona, Minn. Prior to coaching, Nelson was a player at Saint Mary’s for two seasons.
Nelson played his first two years of college basketball at Black Hawk East Community College in Kewanee, Ill. from 2002-2004, starting as a sophomore.
In addition to his assistant coaching duties, Nelson will be an integral part of the Cougars’ recruiting efforts.
Nelson earned a bachelors degree in sports management from Saint Mary’s and is currently pursuing a Masters degree from Winona State University.
